Good to know about going out in Crozon
The peninsula reaches out in fingers of land: Cap de la Chèvre, Pointe de Dinan, Pointe de Pen-Hir, with sandy beaches and cliffs falling straight into the sea between them. The GR34, the old customs officers' path, goes round the whole of it and links most of the headlands together. Morgat, a seaside resort and sheltered harbour, belongs to the same commune.
The seasons are sharply drawn here: in summer events multiply between the town, the beaches and the harbours, with markets, watersports, exhibitions and open-air concerts. Out of season the peninsula is left to itself — Brest and Quimper are both reachable by road, but neither is a spur-of-the-moment outing — and it is the sailing clubs, the halls of the town and the local associations that keep the calendar going, mostly at weekends.
In practice: you come to Crozon by car, the lanes are narrow, and the car parks at the headlands are saturated at the height of summer — setting off early changes everything. The wind blows hard on the capes even in fine weather, and the cliffs are unforgiving: stay on the waymarked paths and check the state of the tide before going down onto a beach.
