Good to know about going out in Loudéac

Loudéac holds an unusual position: roughly at the centre of the peninsula, it belongs to neither the north nor the south coast and lives off what surrounds it — farming, food processing, shops and services for a whole cluster of villages. The forest of Loudéac, close at hand, offers large stretches for walking, and the countryside around, all hedgerows and shallow valleys, is crossed on foot or by bike along former railway lines turned into greenways.

Away from the tourist flows, going out here rests on associations, village halls and voluntary committees, which spreads the programme across the whole year rather than bunching it into summer: fest-noz evenings, village meals, amateur theatre, concerts and car boot sales follow one another, mostly at weekends. Market mornings bring in the neighbouring communes. In practice, central Brittany is covered by car, the road that crosses the region from east to west passes close by, and parking in town is rarely a problem.
